My name is Jay. I've had a dream of living in a Tiny Home for years. It seemed like a big undertaking so it was easy to postpone exploring this lifestyle...and believe me, living "Tiny" is a lifestyle!
I had a good managerial job, nice 2 bedroom apartment with private parking, a sleek motorcycle and a convertible luxury car, all in a trendy neighborhood of Baltimore City. Things were very comfortable for me...
...then I got DOWNSIZED from my corporate job. I was given 2 months notice. I panicked!!!
After shaking off the fear of future unknowns and the loss of security, I realized that the universe was sending me a message...that "Downsizing" was about more than just my job. I realized, I needed to downsize my life but to do it on MY TERMS...that maybe I could "TINY-SIZE" my life. Being a part of the rat race and living with the stress of keeping all my "stuff" had been taking a long term toll on me.
I realized my possessions owned me. I had somehow become a victim of my own success. I had gotten fat off the richness of life and the fat was slowly suffocating me and slowing me down. I needed to shed a few pounds.
A lot of soul searching followed....and I reflected on what REALLY mattered to me in life.
The idea occurred to me that I could still have comfort, fun and excitement in life while taking some new well-considered risks...that I could "reboot" my lifestyle. I thought about my PASSIONS--about what I ENJOYED doing. I thought about what I wanted to LEARN in life. One childhood dream that occurred to me was that of furthering my Chef training! I lost my managerial job on a Sunday in June, and started my job as a Chef on Monday...the VERY NEXT DAY! Since then I've been training and working as a Chef, specializing in Vegan, Organic and Natural foods.
Next, after so many years of watching YouTube videos about Tiny Houses and how to build things, I decided to dust off my tool box. I sold my motorcycle and bought a cargo van off Ebay. I gutted the cargo van and over the course of two months spent my free time rebuilding the inside of the Van--converting it into a Tiny Home. I attached 500 watts of Solar Panels to the roof so the tiny home could be energy self sufficient...offsetting through Solar Power what the vehicle used in fossil fuel.
I now had a Tiny Home...and it was Stealthy! It was designed to operate beneath the radar and off the grid. It was completely self-contained and had everything that I needed to live comfortably ... serving as my residence and as a mobile office. I COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE and bring my home and office with me. I could save a TON of money by saving and investing the money I would normally be paying in rent and utilities. I had LOTS of free time too! I started taking those Yoga classes that I had been dreaming about. I had more time to spend with friends and could now get a full 8 hours of sleep. The only thing I lost was all the stress of climbing the ladder. No more clawing my way to the top. I was FREE. It's like being retired except with the benefit of still being young enough to enjoy life.
I videotaped the entire building process, describing in detail every step of the tiny home conversion process. I started editing the videos and posting them on YouTube. Next I built this website to serve as an information hub to help you BUILD YOUR OWN TINY HOME...to make the process as easy and clear and FUN as possible, to save you time....I did all the research, found all the best products, tools, appliances and building materials.
Whether you live your Tiny Dream in a House on a Trailer; in a Class A, B or C Motorhome; or in a Stealth Van, all the information here can help you. So many of these products can be used in any of these types of residences. IT'S ALL GOOD !!!
If you think this adventure is right for you... The first step of your journey is to choose your base vehicle.
This will be the blank canvas upon which you will create your masterpiece!
