HEATING
Turn up that Heat!!
There are several options with which to heat up your Tiny Home. Let's look at the easiest to install, maintain and repair or replace when necessary. Generally, the most efficient, cheapest and safest way to heat a Tiny Home or Stealth Van is to use propane. It burns the cleanest, is simple to set up and has the most straightforward safety procedures. Heating comes down to 3 basic items, a canister of propane, a hose and a burner / heater.
Also, consider the following SAFETY ITEMS to have on hand...for peace of mind. Always keep a Smoke Detector (with fresh batteries), a Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector (with fresh batteries) and an Explosive Gas detector. Having a small fire extinguisher on hand is a good idea too!

Everyone who uses the "Buddy" heater swears by it. It's simple to use, has 2 settings (low / high) and several built in safety features. It can accept a disposeable Coleman Propane 1 pound tank as fuel or you can use a hose to connect it to a real refillable propane tank. It can be 19 degrees F outside, and within 30 minutes the Buddy heater can bring my Tiny Home up to 70 degrees F. On low setting it burns 1 pound of propane in 6 hours. On high it burns 1 pound in 3 hours. My Buddy got me through the Maryland Winter warm and toasty!

Worthington makes a variety of size tanks. All Worthington tanks are TOP RATED. I chose to buy a NEW quality propane tank rather than take a risk by using those 20 pound returnable tanks that gas stations or Walmart sells. Those rental tanks are risky, you never know their real condition or who used it last. I chose to buy my own 11 pound tank that holds about 2 1/2 gallons of propane. My Buddy heater can run for 66 hours on low or 33 hours on high with a full tank. Also owning a refillable tank pays off long term. I go to a local hardware store that refills my propane tank and charges me $1 per pound. Awesome price, and supporting local business !! Those 1 pound Coleman tanks that get promoted with these Buddy heaters are super expensive. Having my own tank and buying propane by the gallon definitely is cheaper in the long run.

These Coleman 1 pound propane tanks are sold at every Walmart, Target and hardware or camping supply store. Generally they run about $3.50 each or about $6.50 for a two pack. They are more expensive to buy from Amazon. These canisters screw directly into the Buddy heater--no hose needed. They have enough fuel to power the Buddy heater 3 hours on High or 6 hours on Low. I usually keep one or two cans as an emergency back up in case my refillable propane tank runs dry in the middle of the winter night.
